Introduction
You're going to be taking a journey
through the human body. Your goal is to become an expert in one field
(a human body system), and learn from your classmates. You get to choose what
body system to study in depth and tell your classmates about.
What organs are included in your chosen
body system? What is the function of this body system? How does
this system help you keep healthy? What happens to this system in older
people? What can you do to keep this body system working at its
best? Is this system dependant on other body systems? What
happens when this body system fails?
These and other important questions will
be researched by you and your partner for presentation to your classmates!
The
Task
You and a partner are future medical
researchers. You are to gather information about one of the human body
systems and create a PowerPoint presentation that describes, illustrates and
explains the body system. As future medical researchers, you will have
thoroughly researched your chosen body system and will be able to present
your findings to your peers.
The
Process
- First, you'll be assigned to a team of 2
students.
- Use the websites to explore and decide upon
a body system to study with your partner.
- Once you are focused on one system, then use the Internet as well as the other resources
to build your knowledge to describe, explain and illustrate the system.
- Take notes about the body system in
Microsoft Word.
- Also use the websites to gather pictures (remember
to save pictures to YOUR home directory) to be used in your
presentation.
- The following questions should be answered
in your research:
a. What organs
are included in the system AND what is the function of each
organ in the system?
b. What does the system do for your body?
c. What are some common medical problems that might affect
your system?
d. What happens if this system fails?
e. What happens to this system as you age?
f. Is this system interdependent with other body systems?
g. What keeps this system working at peak performance?
h. A list of interesting facts (at least 3) about your body
system that you found in your research.
- Using your research information, create a
PowerPoint presentation that describes, illustrates and explains your
body system to your classmates. The presentation should include
the following:
* At least 8 slides
* An introduction (title) slide
* Pictures of your body system and/or major organs
* A closing slide giving credits to the research team (you and
your partner)
* LIMITED use of animation and/or sound
